Frank Miller Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1 Unused Splash Page 1 Original Art (DC, 1986). Comic book series don't get much more influential than The Dark Knight Returns. So an almost unseen and unused page from that series would have to be a real treasure. Add to it that it was the proposed original title page of the series and that it features Batman atop a giant statue, and you get a gotta-have-it kind of piece! As announced in Comics Collector #8 (Krause Publications, Summer 1985), the mini-series was originally going to be written, pencilled, and inked by Frank Miller himself. At an early stage of the famed project, this page was created as the series' opening splash, but it was subsequently replaced once the ultimate format was decided upon. Although Janson is credited, it is our belief that this page is entirely in Miller's hand. It's a stunner, from a game-changing key series in the history of comics, as rendered twice-up scale in ink with white paint highlights over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 11.75" x 17.75". There is production registration tape in the margins of the toned board. In Very Good condition.
