Frank Frazetta The Serpent (aka "Aros") Paperback Novel Cover Painting Original Art (Paperback Library, 1967). Used on the cover of The Serpent, the Frazetta family has always titled this piece as "Aros". It's a gorgeous piece with rich, warm browns and red shadows that truly set off the green of the Serpent itself juxtaposed against the pale flesh of the longhaired brunette central figure. As with most of Frazetta's works, it begs to tell a complete story to you with just a single look. One of the reasons this image is so compelling is that it hits two of the biggest fantasy art tropes at the same time... lovely semi-naked female figure, and a giant snake! The image was used on the 1967 paperback edition for Jane Gaskell's The Serpent, which was the first in the Atlan Saga series. This oil painting was created on 17.5" x 22" pressboard and has been open front framed to 23" x 27". There are a few very minor surface abrasions in the upper section; however, they are hardly noticeable and the piece has a fetching, eye-catching quality to it. Signed and dated in the left center of the image area. In overall Excellent condition.
